2 Weeks Banff and Jasper cont.2

This second installment of our Banff and Jasper trip has us exploring the iconic Icefields Parkway, a route adorned with glaciers, cascading waterfalls, and wildlife sightings. We will also immerse ourselves in the awe-inspiring beauty of the Columbia Icefield and marvel at the majestic Athabasca Falls and Maligne Canyon. But first, we settle in on the culturally significant and stunning Maligne Lake and Spirt Island.

Maligne lake and it's majestic turquoise water.

We took a tour boat out to Spirit Island in Maligne lake and it was absolutely amazing. In all honesty I’d have to say its even better than Lake Louise. There is something about that island that the natives find magical and healing and the feeling you get standing in that place was definitely peaceful. This is one lake and boat ride you do not want to miss.  Be sure to test the boat guides on their local knowledge. Our two guides had an amazing breathe of local knowledge, including some truly amazing and grueling hikes (we skipped them this trip) and the history of the surrounding areas and the tribes that call(ed) it home.

Spirit Island is absolutely serene and considered a revered place, especially to the area’s indigenous people. Given the significance of Spirit Island, visitors are not allowed on the island (side note: the island is really a peninsula unless the tide and melted snow pack is just right). But the boats will get you to a nice landing spot where you can walk around and enjoy the breathtaking scenery.

The breathtaking beauty of Athabasca Falls, just about 20 miles outside of Jasper, a natural wonder nestled in the heart of the majestic Rocky Mountains. Known for its powerful cascades and stunning scenery, Athabasca Falls offers a captivating blend of awe-inspiring landscapes and outdoor adventure. Explore the pristine wilderness surrounding the falls, and immerse yourself in the unparalleled beauty of one of Canada’s iconic natural attractions. Plan your visit to Athabasca Falls for an unforgettable experience in the heart of nature’s grandeur.
